Why You’ll Love This Honeydew Melon Drink
- Refreshing and light. It’s perfect for those days when it’s too hot to think, but you still want something that feels fresh and hydrating.
- Creamy and frosty texture without ice or ice cream. Frozen honeydew melon and thick Greek yogurt make this recipe healthy, creamy, slushy, and refreshing. Yogurt gives this hydrating smoothie probiotics and an ultra creamy texture (like a milkshake).
- Made with whole, real ingredients. This honeydew slushie is full of simple ingredients like honeydew melon, cucumber, yogurt, lime, honey, water, and a touch of salt for balance.
Before You Start

Ingredients in This Honeydew Melon Smoothie Recipe
- Honeydew melon – freezing honeydew ahead of time gives this smoothie a slushy-like texture once blended. Unlike ice, frozen melon keeps the drink cold and refreshing without watering it down.
- Persian cucumber – cucumbers are great with melon (plus we love them in savory dishes like our Cucumber Avocado Salad). Peel them to remove any bitterness from the skin and keep the smoothie a milky light green color like honeydew. We like Persian cucumbers for their smaller seeds, but English cucumbers would work too.
- Plain Greek yogurt – any plain Greek yogurt will work, but we typically make this smoothie with non-fat or 2% fat yogurt.
- Lime – a couple squeezes of fresh lime juice add bright mild acidity.
- Honey – honey amplifies the sweetness in the honeydew melon and makes this frosty beverage taste like a treat. You can adjust the honey to make it more or less sweet.
- Salt – a small pinch of salt really helps balance and add depth to this smoothie.
- Water – helps the smoothie blend up easier. Depending on the strength of your blender, you may need more water. Just note that less water will make this drink more slushy while more water will make it thinner and milkier, like a juice.

Our Favorite Way To Cut A Melon
Before you cut, make sure to wash the melon. Just like any other product, melons can hold bacteria and dirt. To cut, first place the melon on a cutting board, and cut the melon in half through the center. Second, scoop out the seeds and discard or compost them. Third, place the flat cut side of the melon down on your cutting board then carefully slice all of the rind off with a sharp knife, careful not to cut off too much of the fruit. Finally, once the rind is removed, cut the melon into strips, then cubes.

How To Make A Frozen Honeydew Smoothie
- Prepare and freeze the honeydew. Cut the honeydew into cubes (see our favorite way to cut a melon), place the melon into a freezer safe container with a lid and freeze it. It should take about 2 hours to freeze, but you could also freeze it overnight.
- Thaw the frozen honeydew slightly. Thaw the frozen honeydew for about 10 minutes on the counter to make it easier to blend.
- Blend the smoothie. Add water to a high-powered blender, followed by the cucumber, yogurt, honey, salt, and the frozen honeydew. Blend until smooth.

How To Pick Honeydew Melon
Honeydew melons are sweet, refreshing, and have a soft and juicy texture. They also have some major health benefits too. Here are our tips for picking the best one:
- Color: look for a honeydew melon that has a white, yellowish, or cream colored rind. If it’s green on the outside, it is likely to be less ripe on the inside.
- Feel: try to find one that has some “give” when you press on it, but isn’t too soft. If it’s really soft, it’s overripe. Really hard, and it might be underripe.
- Scent: a ripe, ready-to-eat honeydew has a sweet and slightly musky smell. If it’s too smelly or smells bad, it’s probably too ripe or even spoiled.
- Weight: a melon that’s juicy and on the riper side tends to be heavier. If you’re comparing a couple of different honeydews of the same size and one feels heavier, that’s likely to be the riper option.

Unique Flavor Variations
- Use coconut yogurt instead of Greek yogurt for a non-dairy option.
- Use date syrup instead of honey.
- Replace the honeydew with frozen cantaloupe.
- Add mint for a refreshing flavor.

Final Thoughts
Cool off with this easy, creamy, and refreshing honeydew melon smoothie made with frozen honeydew, yogurt, cucumber, honey, and lime. It’s one of our favorite summer drinks, and if you’re a fan of melon, we know you’ll love this too.

A great drink to help you cool off on a hot summer day.
This smoothie sounds amazing! I cannot wait to try it.
We’re so happy you like it! It’s such a great summer drink.
Oh, I love honeydew melon, but I never thought to make a smoothie with it. I will have to give this a try. I’m not sure I can get Persian cucumbers where I live. Would a regular English cucumber work, or would you suggest another alternative?
Yes! English cucumbers would work well. They’re pretty similar in flavor to Persian cucumbers (which are sometimes called “mini cucumbers” too), but they’re very different in size. Persian cucumbers are usually about 5-7 inches long, whereas English cucumbers can be about a foot long. If you’re going to use an English cucumber, we suggest peeling it like we said to do with the Persian cucumbers, and maybe using only half of an English cucumber as it’s twice the size. Hope you like it!
The colors are so pretty and this sounds so yummy! I’m definitely trying this.
Made this and it was absolute FIRE! Soooo delicious!
I absolutely ADORE the colours of this drink!
We do too! So bright and summery!
