Cinnamon Fig Cocktail
If you’re looking for the perfect drink for the fall season, you need to try this Cinnamon Fig Cocktail! It’s made with a spiced fig and brown sugar simple syrup, Scotch whisky, and a touch of lemon. Add some crushed ice and top it off with some sparkling water for fun (we like Waterloo’s orange vanilla sparkling water with this)!
These drinks are on the sweeter side so if you like your cocktails more sour, feel free to add more lemon or use less fig syrup. You can also keep this alcohol-free by skipping the whisky and adding more sparkling water.
Ingredients in this Cinnamon Fig Cocktail
This delicious cocktail is made up of spiced simple syrup, whisky, citrus, and sparkling water.
Fig Syrup
The star of this drink is the spiced fig simple syrup. This syrup is enough for about 6 drinks. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for a couple weeks. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Figs – figs are fairly mild in flavor, so you’ll need several for this recipe.
- Brown sugar – this simple syrup is made with brown sugar instead of granulated to give it a somewhat molasses flavor.
- Water – like all simple syrups, you’ll need water for this one.
- Lemon juice – the lemon juice helps to balance out the sweetness of the brown sugar and figs.
- Whole spices – the simple syrup is spiced with whole cinnamon and cloves for warmth.
Cinnamon Fig Cocktail
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Scotch whisky – we like the peaty flavor of Scotch in this drink because it pairs well with the sweet syrup, but you can use Irish whiskey if you prefer. Bourbon might make the drink too sweet. If you don’t drink, you could use
- Fig syrup – the beautiful syrup that you’ve made provides a lot of the flavor for this drink.
- Lemon juice – the lemon gives this drink some much needed brightness.
- Sparkling water – we love a little carbonation with this cocktail, so we like to add flavored, unsweetened sparkling water, like Waterloo.
Time for a Drink!
To make the fig syrup, add the ingredients to a pot set over medium heat. Cook until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is at a light boil, about 3-5 minutes. Cover the pot with a lid, reduce the heat to low, and cook for another 15 minutes. Strain the syrup with a fine mesh strainer (we recommend straining it twice for best results). Set it aside to cool.
Once the syrup is cooled, fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add the Scotch whisky, fig syrup, and lemon juice. Shake for about 10 seconds and pour through a strainer into an old fashioned or other short glass. Add some crushed ice, a couple slices of fig, and top with sparkling water.
