Fruity Rice Krispies Treats (Made with Real Fruit)
It’s time to make the fruitiest, most fun rice krispie treats you’ve ever had! These Fruity Rice Krispies Treats aren’t your basic after-school-snack. They’re gooey, slightly crispy, soft, and chewy like the classic version, but with a fruity twist from freeze dried berries and Fruity Pebbles cereal. Keep them as they are, or add some creepy candy eyeballs to turn these into monster bites for Halloween!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- No baking required, making these super quick and easy. We love a no-bake dessert recipe! These are made the same way as traditional rice krispies treats, but with a couple of fun additions.
- They’re made with real fruit! Each fruity rice krispies treat is packed with freeze dried fruit that gets blitzed into a powder and added to the mixture. We like to use freeze dried strawberries and mixed berries in these treats.
- A colorful (literally!) spin on a classic. We love traditional rice krispies treats, and we love fruity treats, so we decided to combine them! The result is a fruity, sweet, and slightly tart treat that is reminiscent of the childhood favorite but with a more complex flavor profile.
- Crunchy, chewy, fruity layers of flavor. The powdered freeze dried fruit seems to add extra chewiness to these treats, giving them the perfect bite.
- Great for potlucks, parties, or game-day gatherings. We love making these treats when we have people over. Just cut them into tiny, bite-sized squares and watch as everyone grabs one, then two, then three…and so on!
A Rice Krispies Treat With Real Fruit
Unlike traditional rice krispies treats, which are made with Rice Krispies cereal, butter, and marshmallows, these treats also use Fruity Pebbles cereal and real freeze dried fruit. Freeze dried fruit is fruit that has been frozen to sub-zero temperatures and then vacuum dried to remove all of its moisture. Though it’s dried out, the freeze drying process keeps most of the nutrients of the fruit. Is it enough to make these treats healthy? Probably not. But it DOES make them extra fruity and delicious!
Ingredients in Fruity Rice Krispies Treats
- Marshmallows – we like using mini marshmallows because they melt faster than bigger ones.
- Butter – this is a pretty sweet dessert so we recommend using salted butter for balance.
- Crisped rice cereal – any kind of crisped/puffed rice cereal (brand name or not) will work in these treats.
- Fruity Pebbles cereal – we love the fruity sweetness this cereal adds to these treats.
- Freeze dried berries – we like to use a blend of freeze dried strawberries and either mixed berry or blueberries.
- Vanilla extract – a little vanilla rounds out these fruity rice krispies treats.
- Salt – we like to add a tiny bit more salt to these treats to enhance the flavors.

How to Make Fruity Rice Krispies Treats
STEP 1: Grease an 8 x 8 inch cake pan with butter and line it with parchment paper.
STEP 2: Add freeze dried berries to a food processor and blend until they become a coarse powder.
STEP 3: Melt butter in a large pot or Dutch oven on medium-low heat, about 1 to 2 minutes.
STEP 4: Add marshmallows, reduce heat to low, and cook until smooth (about 3 to 4 minutes) stirring occasionally with a silicone spatula or spoon. Be patient, you don’t want the marshmallows to caramelize or burn.
- Add the marshmallows to a pot with melted butter
- Melt the marshmallows with the butter
STEP 5: Remove from heat and mix in the vanilla and the salt, then stir in the powdered freeze dried fruit until fully incorporated.
- Add the vanilla and salt
- Add the powdered freeze-dried fruit
STEP 6: Mix in the cereal, being sure to do so quickly before the marshmallows cool too much.
- Add both cereals to the pot
- Mix everything together
STEP 7: Pour the marshmallow cereal mixture into the prepared pan and lightly press into an even layer. You can do this with your hands, a spoon, or a piece of parchment paper placed on top of the marshmallow treats.
STEP 8: Cut these treats into large squares or bite-sized snacks and serve at room temperature.
